Eggs, Eggs & more Eggs
Hatching Eggs:
We can usually provide Hatching Eggs from our Birds throughout the
year, depending upon demand and availability. Please note we are UK based
and delays in delivery may adversely affect posted eggs. That said the eggs we
have sent within the UK usually arrive the following day. If you require any further information or wish to order any eggs
then please contact us, but note as we are not a
commercial venture we only sell by the half dozen to ensure freshness.

Hatching Rates
As a rough guide at least 50%
should hatch providing a good incubator or suitably 'broody' hen is used to
hatch them. Certain breeds are more difficult than others. For example:-
-
The gene that
produces short-legged breeds can prove fatal if the developing chick has a
"double dose". Japanese have this gene and the Buff have proved
particularly difficult, but our Birchen
Grey do very well.
-
Different
colours have different success rates. Gold and Silver Dutch are very easy
to hatch and raise, but we have had less success with Blue and Pyle. Our
White Yokohamas are much better hatchers than the Red Saddled variety.
-
Our
Black-tailed White Japanese have never produced a fertile egg. This could
be because they are such fluffy birds, or our male just isn't up to it. We
are trying to introduce new stock to overcome the problem. In the mean
time they are still very pretty to look at.
Note: We only sell
eggs from pairs we know produce fertile eggs and healthy chicks.
