How do you tell whether a duck is male or female? Can you tell what your chicken
means when it talks to you?
Chickens and Ducks have a language all their own. When a mother hen clucks at
her chicks they all come running for food. This seems to be instinctive, but it
works. Stand in a shed of 50 chickens and make a noise they haven't heard before
and you'll soon find out what an upset chicken sounds like.
I'm sure there are experts in the field that have categorized what some of
these sounds mean, but so far (after searching the web for a many days) I only
came up with a few sites that had any meaningful sounds on them. So I thought I would create my own list. Unless specified otherwise the sounds are all from our
own birds, the phonetics are my own attempts, and the meanings are my own
guesswork. But what does it matter - it was fun creating the list anyway.
